Free-jazz multi-instrumentalist DANIEL CARTER, a NYC legend since the late 60s, appears in an exceptionally sensitive, contemplative settng, and divulges some of his most lyrical playing ever.
“EKSTERE + DANIEL CARTER” deftly blends the late-night shhh/peaceful drones of “In A SilentWay”, the ritualistic trances of LaMonte Young and Tony Conrad, and the somber reflections of
The Art Ensemble of Chicago’s “People in Sorrow”.

DANIEL CARTER is known for his collaborations with Sun Ra, Cecil Taylor, Sam Rivers, Sunny Murray, Thurston Moore, William Parker, Matthew Shipp, TEST, OTHER DIMENSIONS IN MUSIC,
and countless others.

His collaborators, EKSTERE, emerged from the large improvising ensemble of Andrew Lafkas, who directs his musicians to selflessly allow a single sound to spontaneously arise from the group. This is the strategy heard throughout “EKSTERE + DANIEL CARTER”: in near-telepathic synchronization, the players weave tapestries of sound that rise and fall with the sure-footed unpredictability of dream-logic.
